● Do you grant peace to others? Do you refrain from harming those around you? Do your neighbors and the people around you feel safe from your harm? Do you avoid wrongdoing and injustice towards others?

● Do you preserve the nine commandments:

1. Do not associate anything with God: Meaning, do not impose your beliefs on anyone, especially when your belief is the truth, which is belief in God.

2. Be kind to your parents: Meaning, treat them well, be grateful to them by providing for them and living with them in kindness.

3. Do not wrong your children: Provide them their rights, do not rob them of their childhood, and do not kill their childhood by forcing them into hard labor because of poverty. Be good to them.

4. Stay away from immoralities: Keep away from everything rejected by sound human nature, such as lying, gossiping, slander, adultery, and the like.

5. Do not kill: Killing a soul is one of the gravest crimes. Killing is not just physical murder; causing poverty, hunger, oppression, and intellectual destruction to people is also a form of killing.

6. Do not come near the wealth of the orphan. by robbing them from their inheritance

7. Be just and fair in measurements: Do not cheat people out of their rights. If you are a merchant, fulfill the measure and weight honestly, and do not inflate prices because of customers' ignorance. If you are a public employee, perform your job with excellence and give people their rights.

8. Testify to the truth even if it is against your relatives.

9. Fulfill your promises and commitments: In all dealings, do not make betrayal part of your character.

Surah Al‑An‘âm (6:151–153) 151 Say, “Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment, and do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them. And do not approach immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason.”

152 “And do not approach the orphan's property except in a way that is best until he reaches maturity. And give full measure and weight in justice. We do not charge any soul except [with that within] its capacity. And when you testify, be just, even if [it concerns] a near relative. And the covenant of Allah fulfill. This has He instructed you that you may remember.”

153 “And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.”

If you do this, then you are truly a Muslim. However, human nature tends towards evil. Some people may follow these commandments only because of the law and fear of punishment but might not uphold them entirely.

This is why Allah gave us two essential conditions to guarantee both our salvation and the success of human society:

1. Belief in Allah and the Last Day: This is the firmest handhold. Those who uphold safety and peace out of fear of the law might easily change their behavior when the law is absent. But those who do it out of faith in God and fear of the Day of Judgment will remain steadfast no matter the circumstances.

2. Doing righteous deeds: This includes everything that benefits people, each according to his or her position — from spreading knowledge to providing food, work, and welfare to others.

Surah Al‑Baqarah (2:62) “Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabeans – whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteousness – will have their reward with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.”

Surah Al‑Baqarah (2:262) “Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and then do not follow up what they have spent with reminders [of it] or [other] injury – they will have their reward with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.”

Surah Al‑Ma’idah (5:69) “Indeed, those who believe and those who are Jews or the Sabeans or the Christians – whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteousness – no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.”

In this sense, you are a Muslim, regardless of your nationality, race, or language — whether you call yourself a Muslim or not. No matter what Muslims define Islam, or being Muslim

And because there is a Last Day where reckoning, punishment, and reward will take place, there are degrees in following God’s religion. A person should strive to ascend these degrees and draw closer to God throughout their life. For this, Allah has given us a clear roadmap to ease this journey towards Him:

Establishing prayer: Meaning, maintaining constant connection with Allah and with people — connecting with God through supplication, and not abandoning human society — by consistently attending gatherings of remembrance and sharing our reflections on the Quran and our faith journeys.

Giving zakat: Meaning, purifying oneself through persistent good deeds and always being mindful of God and His presence in all our actions.

Constant remembrance of God: Always reflecting on His signs, His blessings, and His creation in this vast universe. Constant contemplation of the Quran, pondering its meanings, and living by it. The Quran is our constitution, the firmest handhold, the unbreakable rope of God, and the beacon — if we follow it, we will never be led astray.
